antique Italian chest from the 1600s, a piece of furniture suitable for storing flour
chest , mobile suitable for storing flour. The upper part has a so-called "humpback" or double-sloping shape, deriving from Gothic ark burials. Widespread in the late sixteenth century, in the seventeenth century the ashlars tended to become rounded at the tips; they rarely have a drawer at the bottom. The most valuable examples are generally embellished with brass studs: in this case there are many gilded bronze studs.
