French 19th Century Mantel Clock in Gilt Bronze and Porcelain

Elegant French mantel clock dating from the second half of the 19th century, featuring a richly decorated gilt bronze case enhanced with refined polychrome porcelain decorations.

The case is adorned with an elaborate ornamental composition featuring foliate motifs, scrolls and raised decorations, surmounted by an elegant cup-shaped element with a lid. At the centre is the circular porcelain dial, decorated with Roman numerals and finely crafted hands.

The dial bears the signature “Ch. Charpentier, Horloger, Paris”, an interesting identifying element of the clock and its connection with the Parisian horological tradition.
