French Louis XV Style Slant-Front Desk with Marquetry, Late 18th Century
Elegant French slant-front writing desk dating from the second half of the 18th century, characterized by a curved and sinuous structure typical of the Louis XV style. The piece features a large inclined fall-front, richly decorated with polychrome wood marquetry, ornamental reserves, shaped frames, and a refined central medallion.
The front is articulated by three large bombé drawers, separated by delicate dark fillets and embellished with elegant gilded and finely chased bronze mounts applied to handles, escutcheons, and decorative elements.
The interior of the fall-front, typical of 18th-century French writing desks, was designed as a practical workspace with compartments and small storage sections.
A remarkable example of French cabinetmaking, combining refined craftsmanship, precious materials, and the elegant curves characteristic of the Louis XV period.
