French Louis XVI Style Inlaid Writing Desk with Raised Cabinet – Early 20th Century
Elegant and refined French writing desk with a raised superstructure, inspired by the Louis XVI style of 18th-century France. The piece stands out for its striking marquetry decoration set against an ebonised background, creating a sophisticated contrast between light and dark woods.
The upper section is surmounted by a delicate pierced brass gallery and features three central drawers and two side doors. The doors are embellished with exquisite tulip-filled vase motifs, crafted from light-coloured woods against a dark background.
The writing surface and the front fall-front panel are decorated with elaborate trompe-l’œil marquetry, depicting writing and dressing-table accessories, including letters, a quill pen, an inkwell, cups, jugs and small bottles. These carefully rendered details create the illusion of objects resting on the surface, enhancing the desk's decorative appeal.
A charming Louis XVI style writing desk with intricate marquetry, ideal for a study, bedroom or elegant classical interior.
